Atari and Plaion Partner to Release New Retro Home Console – The Atari 2600+
In an exciting collaboration, gaming giant Atari is teaming up with Plaion to launch a new retro home console called the Atari 2600+. Paying homage to the original Atari 2600 that captivated gamers in 1977, this console is based on the highly sought-after four-switch model from 1980.
What sets the Atari 2600+ apart from its predecessors is its ability to play both Atari 2600 and 7800 games, offering users a wider array of gaming options. Additionally, it features modern upgrades, such as an HDMI output and widescreen support, ensuring a seamless and immersive gaming experience. The console also boasts reduced cartridge sticking, thanks to an enlarged cartridge socket, and brings nostalgia to life with a luminous Atari logo that lights up when powered on.
Included in the package is the contemporary version of the classic Atari CX40 joystick, now known as the CX40+. This modernized joystick ensures smoother gameplay, enhancing user enjoyment.
Although the console comes with a “10 Games in 1” cartridge featuring free games, it unfortunately lacks some beloved classic titles, including Pac-Man, Frogger, Space Invaders, and Pitfall!. However, users will have the option to purchase physical cartridges to expand their gaming library and relive the nostalgia of these iconic titles.
This new release comes after the discontinuation of the Atari VCS retro console, launched two years ago, which failed to generate sufficient consumer interest. Atari’s decision to partner with Plaion highlights their commitment to reviving the retro gaming era and catering to the interests of their passionate fanbase.
Exciting news for gaming enthusiasts worldwide, as the Atari 2600+ is set to hit the market on November 17th, with a price tag of $130. Additionally, an optional second joystick will be available for an extra $25, ensuring multiplayer gaming fun. Pre-orders for the console are currently available on Atari’s website, allowing eager fans to secure their piece of gaming history.
With the release of the Atari 2600+, gamers can look forward to reliving the golden days of gaming with a touch of modernity and a nod to the past. Prepare for hours of nostalgic excitement as you immerse yourself in the world of Atari 2600+.
