Killeen, Texas Tops List as Most Affordable and Fastest-Growing City in the US
In a recent analysis of the 200 biggest cities in the United States, Killeen, Texas has emerged as the most affordable and fastest-growing city, according to the 2022 American Community Survey. The ranking took into account the total population of these cities, with Killeen standing out among the rest.
Five cities from the Lone Star State made it to the top 20, further solidifying Texas as a desirable destination for Americans. Alongside Killeen, Lubbock showcased its appeal as an affordable city. Other states such as South Dakota, Tennessee, and Oklahoma also claimed their spots within the top five.
Interestingly, many of the fastest-growing cities on the list were not among the top 100 in terms of population, indicating that smaller communities are experiencing significant growth. The southern region of the United States particularly stood out, nabbing several spots on the list.
Texas, in particular, boasted the highest number of cities in the top 20 compared to any other state. Killeen, known for being home to the Fort Hood military base, stood out due to its below-average median income and lower home prices, making it an attractive location for those seeking affordability.
Lubbock, while not experiencing rapid population growth, thrived as a city with a lower cost of living, thanks to below-average home prices and expenditures. The city’s appeal comes from its ability to provide a comfortable lifestyle without breaking the bank.
Additional Texas cities that made it to the top 20 include Fort Worth, McKinney, and Frisco. Each of these cities offers its own unique charm and advantages that contribute to their growth and affordability.
Taking second place overall was Sioux Falls, South Dakota, which boasted an impressive five-year population growth rate of 13.5%. Clarksville, Tennessee ranked third, while Oklahoma City secured the fourth spot. Notably, no cities in the Northeast or on the West Coast managed to break into the top 20.
It is worth noting that Florida and North Carolina also had a considerable presence on the list. Florida, in particular, attracted the highest number of people relocating to the state in 2021-2022, followed closely by Texas and North Carolina. These statistics further cement the appeal of the southern states for those seeking growth, affordable living, and opportunity.
As Killeen, Texas takes the crown as the most affordable and fastest-growing city in the US, the state of Texas continues to rise as an attractive destination among Americans. With an array of cities offering affordable living and promising growth, it’s no wonder that Texas is becoming a hotspot for those looking to settle down and thrive.
